COCOGIS Version 1.0 (test Version)
Thanks to the project “Upgrading international coconut genebanks and evaluating accessions” funded in 2012 by the Global Crop Diversity Trust, Bioversity International started to develop a new interface named COCOGIS (Coconut Germplasm Information System).
The first test version can be accessed by clicking here.
COCOGIS will provide a user-friendly access to coconut germplasm data, with the possibility to visualize germplasm information on georeferenced maps and satellite images.
In the future COCOGIS will probably replace the software Coconut Genetic Resources Database (CGRD6) which is also available on the COGENT website. To date, COCOGIS does not allow inputting additional data. All the data available in COCOGIS was imported from CGRD6, which presently remains the only software for genebank curators to update the data on their coconut genebanks. Further development of the COCOGIS is needed, and this should be done in the framework of a dedicated project.
The aim of COCOGIS is to enhance knowledge on coconut diversity, to help rationalize conservation and to improve the use of coconut genetic resources though a facilitated access to comprehensive information.
